'World Famous in Medbury.' This iconic Hurunui landmark set on 1.1 hectares could be the basis for something truly special.
Now an opportunity awaits those seeking to purchase a slice of New Zealand history to call their own, enjoying enviable rural farmland surrounding it.
The Medbury Hall creates an exceptional focal point and has played an integral role in providing a social gathering place for the local community for approximately 130 years. In recent years the building has been utilised by the local playgroup.
The cathedral ceilings are a statement piece and are complemented by exposed trusses, sash windows and timber flooring features throughout. Serviced well by two toilets and spanning the length of the lean-to addition is a functional kitchen space. A newly installed log burner ensures the halls occupants are kept warm on a dreary winter's day.
Established in March 1887 Medbury Hall was historically opened as the Hurunui Side School before being renamed as Medbury School in 1888. Medbury School closed its doors in 1927 due to the amalgamation of The Peaks, Masons Flat and Horsley Down Schools, to form one School in Hawarden. The building remained unused until 1933 when locals purchased it from the school board. After a touch of tender, loving care the building reopened in July 1934 as the Medbury Hall as it is famously known as today.
If you are a heritage lover wanting to purchase a unique buying opportunity, this may just be the place to make your mark and although there is undeniably some work to be done to make this dwelling a habitable residence, with consent from the local council, the rewards would make it more than worth it.
