Pukekoma Forest is a substantial forestry holding located in the Awamangu area of South Otago, approximately 28 kilometres north of Balclutha, within a well-established forestry district. Its position within 100 kilometres of Port Otago provides practical access to export and processing infrastructure, adding to its overall appeal as a forestry investment.
The property comprises a total area of 741.8 hectares, with approximately 725.4 hectares of plantable land, of which 687.5 hectares are registered under averaging scheme in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), offering carbon returns alongside timber production. The forest is planted predominantly in Pinus radiata and some Douglas fir, with the main planting programme carried out between 2022 and 2025. In addition to the recently established forest, the property also includes older stands that are ready or close to harvest, providing flexibility and potential near term harvesting opportunities.
The land comprises rolling to undulating ridges, with some steeper faces which lends itself well to plantation forestry with approximately 90% of the property suitable for ground-based harvesting. The surrounding area is well recognised for forestry, with neighbouring properties comprising both established forests and new plantings along with farmland.
