About Doug Smith

Doug started his working career in the Dairy Industry and did five years in the national cadet scheme, before going out on his own as a fencing contractor.

He then spent considerable time in the bread industry as an owner/driver, then moved on to owning a timber processing business. Just prior to entering the Real Estate industry, he returned to farming as an assistant farm manager on a dairy support unit.

Nowadays, Doug works out of our Richmond office growing the PGG Wrightson Real Estate presence in the regionOver the last few years, Doug has sold a considerable number of farms and lifestyle properties. Doug has been involved in the expansion of the hop industry locally, transacting dairy farms to corporate parties for hop production. Doug achieved the highest single sale for the company in the year to July 2020.

Doug and his partner Fiona live on a lifestyle property in Upper Moutere, Fiona also works in the agricultural industry as a rural manager with FMG. He enjoys hunting, fishing, tennis and getting to the Bach in the Abel Tasman. They have two children and spend most of their leisure time ferrying them to various sporting activities.

Testimonials

"Doug was a pleasure to work with during the sale of our rural property. He worked very hard for us and found us the right buyer for the property. We would thoroughly recommend him."

"Both Roger and I would like to say a big “thank you” to you for the skill and dedication you showed in helping us when selling our property at Strachan Road. Not only did you go the extra mile with our sale but you found us our forever home, a great property at Rosedale Road. We just love it here and couldn’t be happier."

Sandra and Roger McCormick

To whom it may concern, Joe and Doug have sold two farm properties for us in Nelson in December 2019. One was sold by Tender, the other a Deadline sale. Being a partnership arrangement with two estates and two other partners, these sales involved a lot of negotiating with all 4 parties. I think Joe and Doug did an outstanding job of negotiating with all involved, including those looking to buy and us looking to sell. Thankfully it was a very quick sale, and we are more than happy with the end result. Peter Barnett 215ha - Dryland sheep, beef and Forestry property 61ha - Flat coastal development property

“We listed with Doug Smith as we could see from real estate signs that he was active and successful in our area. We found him to be enthusiastic and attentive and with a good background knowledge of rural living which was very useful. Doug found buyers for our property very promptly, handled the ins and outs of the transaction well, keeping us informed, and we ended up well satisfied with the whole process and result.”

Richard Wells

"G’day Doug, many thanks for the marketing and extremely quick sale of our Upper Moutere Property. We greatly appreciated your courteous and professional approach, the sale happened much sooner than we anticipated and the sales and purchase agreement you put together covered all of our concerns nicely. Thanks again"

Ken Millward

Roger Kelling

"Doug Smith acted as my agent for the sale of my property over several months in 2016. I found Doug to be a very astute person who understood the need to be clear and concise in his work. Doug went about his responsibilities in a professional manner while recognising good communication was paramount. I have no hesitation in recommending him to any future client."

Keith Tillman

Doug has put in great effort and shown perseverance to make this sale happen. He has handled the sale with professional demeanour and excellent communication throughout.

After having had our property on the market for about two years, without success, we contacted Doug Smith, who then successfully (and within a short period of time) sold our property. We enjoyed doing business with Doug, who impressed us with his professionalism and efficiency, even after we had moved back to the Netherlands. Thanks again and we wish you a lot of success
